Faliero Masi

1974 or '75 Faliero Masi.  This bike was constructed in Italy under the supervision of the master, Faliero Masi.  There are very likely only a handful of these bikes ever built.  This bike was reportedly a gift from Faliero to a physician, who was a friend of Mr. Masi's.  Faliero moved Masi production from Milano to Carlsbad California in 1973/74.  Meanwhile, Alberto Masi kept the Masi name in production in Italy.  It has been suggested that some dispute over the Masi name gave way to the "Faliero" Masi bikes produced in Italy during this time frame.

This bike has first generation Super Record components.  In fact, the rear derailleur is a Pat. 73 Super Record!  The bottom bracket is a titanium Super Record, with bolts, which preceded the later nutted versions of the early 1980's.  The bike has a first generation Super Record seat post, Super Record headset, and early Super Record long-reach brake handles.  Note the Masi pantographed shifters, and pantograhped front derailleur bracket.  Also, Everest alloy freewheel and Everest light-weight chain.  Saddle is a 3ttt SuperLeggera with alloy rails.  The frame is Columbus tubing, of course.  Rims are Martano, which changed from  the earlier "art deco" winged logo to the "bowtie" logo at this time.  Note the top tube cable guides, which appear to have been made out of rear derailleur cable stops!  The stem is 3ttt and is Faliero Masi pantographed, with larger allen head bolt found only on mid '70's and earlier stems of this period.  Chain ring is also Masi pantographed.   This bike has original decals and paint, but has been professionally restored/ retouched.

  1. Very interesting bike. It affords a peek into the history of the Masi father and son.
I have never seen handlebars with the Masi stamp. Amazing!
